Option 2
1. Open the QuarkXPress layout, and then display the Usage dialog box (Utilities menu) to confirm that all fonts are available and that all imported pictures are linked to the layout and display a status of OK.
2. Choose File / Print, and then click the Printer button to display the printer driver dialog box. Before the printer driver dialog box displays, a message may display to inform you that changes will affect the setup of your printer driver rather than simply affecting the options within QuarkXPress.
3. In the options pop-up menu of the printer driver dialog box, choose Output Options from the pop-up menu.
4. Check Save as File, and then choose PostScript from the Format pop-up menu.
5. Use the controls in the Save to File dialog box to specify a name and location for the file. Click Save to return to the QuarkXPress Print dialog box.
6. Before clicking the Print button make sure that all your settings are correct in the print dialogue box. Some things to check are: (a) Layout Registration / Centered, Offset / 12 pt (b) Setup Width / add 1 inch to your Layout size, Height / add 1 inch to your Layout size, Page Positioning / Center (c) Bleed .125 is the minimum recommendation by TUI (d) OPI this can be turned off. There are other settings to check but these are the most important.
7. Click Print to save the layout as a PostScript file.
8. Open Acrobat Distiller in Default Settings pick the Press Quality setting or you can download TUIs Press settings and put them in the Settings folder that is on your hard drive: Users Shared Adobe PDF 6.0 Settings.
9. Either drop your Postscript file in the top window of the Distiller dialogue box or, in the Distiller menu bar click on File Open and browse to find your Postscript file.
7. Never assume that your file is okay after you are done creating your PDF. Always open your file in Acrobat and check it to make sure it is as it should be. Acrobat 6 now has a Preflight (Document Preflight) feature that can help you determine if there are any problems.
